Questions and answers

Can glasses or contact lenses slow myopia?

Some are designed to. Each has a different FDA status, and results vary from child to child. The doctor explains the risks and what is known before you choose.

How long is a myopia evaluation?

About an hour.

How often is an eye exam needed?

Many adults need one every year or two, and children whose vision is changing need one more often.

Do you work with my vision plan?

We work with many vision plans. Call to confirm yours.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A visit for an eye problem, an eye disease check or a follow-up is billed to medical insurance, even when the same visit includes a routine exam.

Can I fill my prescription elsewhere?

Yes. Your prescription is yours.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes, when the fitting is finished.

Which cards and glasses do I bring to a visit?

Your current glasses and contact lenses, your insurance and vision plan cards and the names of any eye drops in use.

How much will this cost?

It depends on the visit and on your plan. How fees work explains which part a vision plan pays, which part medical insurance pays and what you pay yourself, and we give a written estimate in advance.

What should I do in an eye emergency?

Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over the vision or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
